F.A.Q.
Students holding a Bachelor’s degree in Building and Construction Engineering (Class L-23) can enroll, without the need for additional course requirements, in the following LM-24 Master’s degree programs offered by the Politecnico di Milano – AUIC School:
- Architectural Engineering – Offered at Lecco Campus, available only in English
- Management of Built Environment – Offered at Milano Leonardo Campus, available only in English
- Ingegneria Edile per la Sostenibilità-Building Engineering for Sustainability – Offered at Milano Leonardo Campus, available in both Italian and English
The Architectural Engineering program has a strong international orientation. It is open to students with a background in various fields of building engineering, civil engineering, and architecture. The program trains professionals capable of managing multidisciplinary, integrated projects at both the building and urban scales, focusing on new developments as well as refurbishment projects.
The Management of Built Environment program combines expertise from both building engineering and management engineering. It prepares professionals to oversee and maintain the built environment over time, ensuring its long-term functionality and sustainability.
The Ingegneria Edile per la Sostenibilità – Building Engineering for Sustainability program is a recently updated and integrated version of the previous Building Systems Engineering (in Italian) and Building Engineering (in English) programs.
This program offers four specialized educational tracks (PSPA), each aligned with specific career paths, designed to enhance the employability of graduates in both national and international job markets:
- Materials, Technologies, and Structures (in Italian)
- Digital Innovation for the Construction Industry (in Italian)
- Innovative Envelope and Facade (in English)
- Performance Modeling and Design (in English)
Each PSPA ensures continuity in the language of instruction throughout the entire program (either fully in Italian or fully in English). However, students have the flexibility to choose elective courses from other PSPAs in the second year, including those taught in a different language.
According to the latest 2023 employment survey conducted by the Career Service of Politecnico di Milano, the employment rate six months after graduation is 100%, with an average net starting salary of €1,800 per month.
In 2022, the Career Service received over 3,500 job requests related to the field of building and construction engineering, with approximately 70% job offers and 30% internship opportunities.
The industry is continuously seeking professionals with expertise in:
- Advanced and innovative building envelope systems (e.g., metal-glass facades, high-performance, smart, adaptive, or green envelopes capable of generating energy or storing carbon).
- Integrated building system technologies, particularly next-generation solutions that are part of urban and territorial networks.
- Structural safety and retrofitting, especially for existing buildings, with a focus on technologies that enhance resilience.
- Digital information systems and modeling, both at the scale of individual buildings and large property portfolios, for performance analysis and operational management.
Our graduates confirm that the program provides the multidisciplinary and multiscale knowledge required to develop new professional roles. These emerging roles are increasingly in demand due to the ongoing ecological transition, which is reshaping the construction sector. Graduates are equipped to manage various functional and performance aspects of buildings throughout their entire life cycle.
To activate your internship, first identify a host institution through the university’s Career Service, networking events, or direct contacts. Once secured, submit the necessary documentation via the internship management platform, including a training agreement outlining activities, learning outcomes, and duration. The university must approve the proposal to ensure alignment with academic objectives.
During the internship, maintain communication with your university tutor if required. At the end, submit a final report and, if applicable, receive an evaluation from the host institution. Upon approval, the university will validate the internship and award the corresponding ECTS credits.
