Mission and goals

The programme, entirely offered in English, prepares high-level professionals that can work in the field of the built environment, and in particular of high energy performance, low environmental impact buildings, thanks to multi-disciplinary training and the acquisition of specialist engineering skills.

Our graduates can work in the field of new and refurbished buildings (and more in general of the built environment) with high performances, high energy efficiency and limited environmental impact. They are also able to transfer this ability outside Europe, in countries with different climate and construction practices, thanks to the experience gained in the world-leading European legislation about energy-efficient buildings (target 2050).

The Architectural Engineer is a strongly innovative professional, able to manage the complexity of the high-performance built environment: either because he/she masters the tools and the cultural aspects required to guide a design process integrating different disciplines (multi-disciplinary) at different scales (multi-scalar), which is the only route to cost-effective solutions; or because he/she acquired the ability and the tools to model in detail the components of buildings from the point of view of structural behaviour and building physics.

Graduates in Architectural Engineering can take the Professional Practice Exam to get licensed as senior engineers according to the Italian law (registration in the Albo degli Ingegneri, settore Civile – Ambientale, sezione A), and practice in Italy and / or in other countries according to the specific local regulations.

The Architectural Engineer can master the complex series of technical, technological, organisational, legislative and regulatory aspects related to fields such as:

  • the work in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • the sustainability of buildings, either new-build or refurbished;
  • the multi-scale correlations originated by the quest for environmental quality of complex systems, either at the urban or building scale;
  • the technological innovation of buildings and their components;
  • the advanced performance modelling of construction components, building services and complex structures;
